Data Entry Speedup
Data entry is a lot smoother if you use the keyboard as much as possible. It is therefore useful to familiarize yourself with the following keys:
- [Tab] advances to the next field in order, usually from top to bottom, left to right.
- [Shift-Tab] goes back to the previous field in reverse.
- Several text fields give you a choice list to choose from. In that case, you can highlight the item you want and then press the [Return] key to enter your selection into the field.
- The [Up] and [Down] arrows keys on the keyboard can be used to highlight the item you want in a choice list before pressing [Return] to enter the value into the field.
- The [Enter] key is the shortcut for the Accept (or Tick) button. Do not use this to enter values into fields.
- When you [Tab] to a checkbox, you can mark or unmark it by pressing the space bar.
- If you want to skip over a field with a pop-up choice list box, you may press [Esc] or [Tab] to close that box and then [Tab] again to the next field.
