If you select a folder to batch rename its included files, then you have some choices to define objects to rename.

'Filenames in this folder (ONE layer)'

Only rename files name below the specified folder, not include subfolder's files name.

'All filenames in all folder (ALL layers)'

In this case, it not only rename files name below the specified folder, but also include all subfolder's files name.

'Only subfolders names (without files)'
